Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich Ingredients
- 8 mini croissants
- 4 slices smoked cheddar cheese (or regular cheddar slices)
- ¾ lb deli cut ham
Glaze
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ½–1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Topping
- 1 egg white
- A splash of water
- Poppy seeds, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Croissants: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray. Slice each mini croissant horizontally in half. Also cut each slice of cheddar cheese in half to fit the croissants.
- Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, yellow mustard, honey, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended.
- Assemble the Croissants: Spread the prepared mustard glaze on both the top and bottom halves of each croissant. Place half a slice of cheddar cheese on the bottom half, then add a folded slice of ham on top of the cheese. Close the croissant with the top half and arrange all assembled croissants in the prepared baking dish.
- Add Egg Wash and Poppy Seeds: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg white and a splash of water. Brush the tops of each croissant evenly with the egg wash to help with browning. Sprinkle poppy seeds over the tops for a nice finish.
- Bake Until Golden and Melted: Bake the croissants in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the cheese is melted inside and the croissant tops turn golden brown. Remove from oven and serve warm.
Notes
- Smoked cheddar is preferred for a richer flavor but regular cheddar works fine.
- You can adjust the amount of Worcestershire sauce to taste, depending on how tangy you like the glaze.
- Use fresh deli ham slices for best flavor; leftover ham can also be used.
- Allow croissants to cool slightly after baking as the filling will be very hot.
- These croissants are best enjoyed the day they are baked but can be reheated gently in the oven.
