Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 6-8 medium flour tortillas
- 1 pound ground chicken breast
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
- Salt & pepper (to taste)
Garnishes
- Iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 cup grape tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup onion, chopped
- Sour cream (to taste)
- 1 lime, quartered
Instructions
- Warm the Tortillas: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Wrap the tortillas in foil and place them in the oven for several minutes to warm them evenly. This ensures the tortillas are soft and pliable for assembling the tacos.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground chicken along with the ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Cook the mixture for about 8-10 minutes, stirring frequently and breaking up the meat with a spatula, until the chicken is thoroughly cooked.
- Prepare Garnishes: While the chicken cooks, shred the iceberg lettuce, slice the avocado, halve the grape tomatoes, and chop the onion to get your garnishes ready.
- Mix in BBQ Sauce: Once the chicken is cooked through, stir in the BBQ sauce carefully to coat the meat evenly. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Assemble and Serve: Remove the warmed tortillas from the oven and fill each with the BBQ chicken mixture. Top with shredded lettuce, sliced avocado, tomatoes, onions, and a dollop of sour cream. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side for a fresh burst of citrus.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute flour tortillas with corn tortillas.
- Use low-sugar or homemade BBQ sauce to reduce sugar content.
- Ground chicken breast keeps the tacos lean; you can also try ground turkey for a similar effect.
- Adjust seasoning levels to your taste preferences.
- To add more spice, include a pinch of chili powder or fresh jalapeños.
