Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 10 cups mini pretzels
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Make Toffee Sauce: Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and corn syrup until dissolved. Bring to a boil and allow it to boil for 5 minutes without stirring to develop the toffee flavor. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and baking soda, which will cause the mixture to foam and lighten.
- Coat Pretzels: Place the mini pretzels in a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm toffee sauce over the pretzels and stir immediately and thoroughly to coat all pretzels evenly before the sauce hardens.
- Bake Pretzels: Spread the coated pretzels out in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake them in the oven for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even baking and prevent burning.
- Cool and Store: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the pretzels cool completely to allow the toffee to harden and crisp. Once cooled, break apart any clusters and store the buttery toffee pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for freshness.
Notes
- Ensure you stir the toffee sauce right after adding baking soda to avoid clumping and to achieve a light, airy texture.
- Use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Make sure to stir the pretzels every 15 minutes during baking to avoid burning and ensure even coating.
- Store in airtight containers to maintain the pretzels’ crispness and flavor for up to 1 week.
