Scale
Spices & Tea
- 2 cups water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 black tea bags
Main Ingredients
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
- 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Boil Water: In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over medium heat.
- Infuse Spices: Add the cinnamon stick, ground ginger, ground cardamom, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors.
- Steep Tea: Add the black tea bags to the spiced water and let them steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on how strong you want your tea.
- Combine Pumpkin: Remove the tea bags and cinnamon stick. Stir in the pumpkin puree until fully blended into the tea.
- Add Milk and Sweetener: Pour in the milk, honey or maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir well and heat gently until warmed through without boiling.
- Froth Tea: Whisk the tea mixture to create a creamy froth, or blend it in a blender for a few seconds for a foamier texture.
- Serve: Pour into cups, strain if you prefer to remove any spice bits, and serve hot to enjoy.
Notes
- You can use any type of milk—dairy, almond, oat, or soy—for a dairy-free option.
- Adjust the amount of sweetener to taste; maple syrup offers a richer flavor while honey adds floral notes.
- For a stronger chai flavor, steep the tea bags longer, but avoid bitterness by not oversteeping.
- Straining the tea before serving is optional but helps create a smoother drink without sediment.
- Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving.
