Description

These Easy Oven Fries are a simple, crispy, and flavorful homemade alternative to fast food fries. Made with Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes and seasoned with a blend of paprika, garlic, onion powder, and oregano, they deliver a perfect crispy texture without frying. Ready in just 40 minutes, these oven-baked fries are a healthier, delicious side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 2 large Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes

Seasonings & Oil

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Soak Potatoes: Cut the potatoes into matchstick shapes and soak them in cold water for 15 to 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve crispier fries.
  2. Dry Potatoes: Rinse the soaked potatoes thoroughly and dry them completely using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to ensure they crisp up nicely in the oven.
  3. Prepare Oven and Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  4. Toss Fries with Seasoning: In a mixing bowl, combine the dried potato matchsticks with olive oil, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, and black pepper. Toss well until each piece is evenly coated.
  5. Arrange Fries on Baking Sheet: Spread the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure there is space between each fry to allow for even cooking and crispiness.
  6. Bake Fries: Bake the fries in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then flip them to the other side and continue baking for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the fries are crispy on the outside and tender inside.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove the fries from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving to enhance their texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Soaking the potatoes removes starch and improves crispiness.
  • Make sure to dry potatoes thoroughly before baking to prevent sogginess.
  • Use parchment paper or a silicone mat to avoid fries sticking to the baking sheet.
  • Flipping the fries halfway through baking promotes even browning and crispness.
  • Adjust seasonings to your preference, adding more or less salt and spices.
  • For extra crispiness, you can bake on a wire rack placed over the baking sheet.
