Cooked on the stovetop and finished under the broiler for a bubbly cheesy top, this recipe is simple to prepare and guaranteed to please both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara or pizza sauce
  • 8 lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Garnish

  • Chopped fresh basil or parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook Beef and Vegetables: In a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the diced onion until browned and fully cooked, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Stir occasionally to break apart the meat.
  2. Add Seasonings: Add minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant, stirring to combine the flavors.
  3. Add Sauce and Noodles: Stir in the marinara or pizza sauce and 2 cups of water. Add the broken pieces of lasagna noodles and mix well to ensure the noodles are coated and submerged.
  4. Simmer Covered: Cover the skillet and let everything simmer gently for 15 to 18 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Cook until the noodles are tender and have absorbed the sauce.
  5. Add Cheese and Pepperoni: Once the noodles are tender, stir in half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Layer the pepperoni slices evenly on top, then sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese followed by the grated Parmesan cheese over the pepperoni.
  6. Broil for Finish: If desired, transfer the skillet to a preheated broiler and broil for 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese melts, bubbles, and turns slightly golden brown. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with freshly chopped basil or parsley if using, and serve hot straight from the skillet for a cozy and delicious meal.

Notes

  • Substitute ground sausage for ground beef, or use a combination of both for extra flavor.
  • Add your favorite pizza toppings such as mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, or onions for added texture and taste.
  • Use gluten-free lasagna noodles to make this recipe gluten-free if desired.
  • If you don’t have a broiler-safe skillet, transfer contents to a baking dish before broiling the cheese on top.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
