Ingredients
Scale
Donut Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (or neutral oil)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped fresh strawberries
Strawberry Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp strawberry puree (from about 2–3 strawberries)
- ½–1 tbsp milk, if needed for consistency
- A pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare the pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 6-cavity donut pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Combine wet ingredients and strawberries: In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Then stir in the chopped fresh strawberries to distribute them evenly.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain a light, fluffy texture.
- Fill the donut pan: Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about three-quarters full to allow room for rising.
- Bake the donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean, indicating they are fully cooked.
- Cool donuts: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the glaze: Puree fresh strawberries using a blender or food processor. In a bowl, mix the strawberry puree with powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add a pinch of salt if desired to balance the flavor.
- Glaze the donuts: Dip the cooled donuts into the strawberry glaze, ensuring an even coating. Allow the glaze to set on the wire rack before serving.
- Serve or store: Serve the donuts immediately for the best texture and flavor. Alternatively, store them in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Use fresh ripe strawberries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
- You can substitute milk with almond, soy, or oat milk to make the recipe dairy-free.
- If you prefer, replace unsalted butter with neutral oils like vegetable or canola oil.
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts tender and airy.
- These donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for up to 2 days in an airtight container at room temperature.
- Make sure the donuts are fully cooled before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting.
