Ingredients
Scale
Fresh Mushrooms
- 1 pound fresh mushrooms (button or cremini)
Breading Station
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
Additional
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- Ranch dressing (for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare Mushrooms: Rinse the mushrooms under cold water and pat them dry thoroughly with a paper towel. Slice the mushrooms evenly to about ¼ inch thickness to ensure even frying.
- Set Up Breading Station: Arrange three bowls: one with the flour combined with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper; a second bowl with beaten eggs; and a third with breadcrumbs for coating.
- Coat Mushrooms: Take each sliced mushroom and first coat it with the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, dip the mushroom slices into the beaten eggs and let the extra drip off. Finally, press the mushrooms into the breadcrumbs, ensuring an even coating.
- Heat Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a large skillet to about ½ inch depth and heat over medium-high heat until the oil shimmers, indicating it is ready for frying.
- Fry Mushrooms: In batches, add the breaded mushroom slices carefully into the hot oil. Fry each side for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain oil temperature.
- Drain Excess Oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried mushrooms from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil and keep them crisp.
- Repeat Frying: Continue frying the remaining mushrooms following the same procedure until all are cooked and crispy.
- Serve: Arrange the fried mushrooms on a serving platter and serve immediately hot with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.
Notes
- Ensure mushrooms are completely dry before breading to help the coating stick better.
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch or regular breadcrumbs if preferred.
- Maintain the oil temperature to avoid greasy mushrooms; adjust heat as needed.
- This recipe can be doubled easily if cooking for a larger group.
- Leftover mushrooms can be warmed in the oven to retain crispiness but are best eaten fresh.
