Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 cup warm whole milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
Garlic Butter Topping
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- Extra melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until the mixture is foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: Add the remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine thoroughly. Gradually add the flour one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 6–8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Shape each into a ball and place them evenly spaced in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise again for 30–40 minutes until puffy and nearly doubled.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the rolls finish rising.
- Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: While baking, melt 1/4 cup butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook gently for 1–2 minutes until fragrant, then stir in the chopped parsley. Remove from heat.
- Brush Rolls: Once baked, remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush generously with the garlic butter mixture. Serve warm for best flavor.
Notes
- These rolls can be prepared ahead by refrigerating the shaped dough balls overnight; bake directly the next day.
- For added flavor, sprinkle grated Parmesan or mozzarella cheese over the rolls before baking.
- Use fresh yeast for the best rise and texture.
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- Brush with extra melted butter before serving to keep rolls moist and flavorful.
