Description

A flavorful Hot Honey Chicken Bowl featuring tender, spiced chicken coated in a sweet and spicy honey sauce, served over your choice of rice with roasted vegetables and fresh avocado slices. This quick stovetop recipe balances sweet heat with savory spices, perfect for a satisfying, easy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb), diced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

For the Hot Honey Sauce:

  • â…“ cup honey
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar

For the Bowl:

  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or jasmine)
  • 1 cup roasted vegetables (broccoli, bell peppers, or carrots)
  • ½ avocado, sliced (optional)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 tbsp chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the skillet: Warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for cooking the chicken.
  2. Season the chicken: Add the diced chicken to the skillet and evenly season with ½ teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
  3. Cook the chicken: Sauté the chicken for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is golden brown and fully cooked through.
  4. Set chicken aside: Remove the cooked chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate or bowl.
  5. Prepare the sauce: Lower the heat and add the honey, hot sauce, soy sauce, butter, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar to the same skillet.
  6. Simmer the sauce: Stir the mixture continuously until the butter melts and the sauce thickens slightly, creating a glossy coating.
  7. Coat the chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss to coat thoroughly with the hot honey sauce. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes to meld flavors.
  8. Assemble the base: Distribute 2 cups of cooked rice evenly into two bowls, forming the base layer.
  9. Add vegetables and avocado: Top the rice with 1 cup of roasted vegetables and arrange sliced avocado on top if using.
  10. Add the chicken: Place the hot honey coated chicken over the rice and vegetables, drizzling any remaining sauce from the skillet over the top.
  11. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the bowls before serving for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can adjust the spiciness by varying the amount of hot sauce and red pepper flakes.
  • Use any variety of cooked rice or grains to suit your preference.
  • Roasting your own vegetables adds great flavor, but steamed or sautéed vegetables work fine too.
  • For a lower-sodium option, reduce the soy sauce or use a low-sodium version.
  • Avocado is optional but adds a creamy texture and healthy fats.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) for safety.
