Description

A quick and flavorful Hot Honey recipe that combines the natural sweetness of honey with a spicy kick from red pepper flakes, balanced by apple cider vinegar and a hint of garlic. Perfect for drizzling over pizza, fried chicken, or roasted vegetables, this versatile condiment is easy to make in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Hot Honey

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1-2 Tbsp. red pepper flakes (adjust for desired spice level)
  • 2 tsp. apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Heat Honey: Add the honey to a medium-sized saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the honey to a boil. Once boiling, remove the pot from the heat.
  2. Add Flavors: Mix in the red pepper flakes, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and pinch of salt. Whisk everything together until well combined.
  3. Marinate: Let the red pepper flakes marinate in the hot honey for at least 5 minutes, up to 10 minutes, to infuse the flavor thoroughly.
  4. Strain (Optional): For a smooth honey without flakes, place a fine mesh strainer over a glass jar and pour the warm honey through it to remove the pepper flakes. Alternatively, serve with flakes in for extra heat.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes based on how spicy you want the honey.
  • The apple cider vinegar adds a slight tang to balance the sweetness, but lemon juice can be used as a substitute.
  • Keep the honey warm while straining to help it pass smoothly through the mesh.
  • Store leftover hot honey in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 month.
  • Use hot honey as a drizzle for fried chicken, pizza, cheese boards, roasted vegetables, or even in cocktails for a sweet-spicy kick.
