Description

This hot onion dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer perfect for parties or gatherings. Combining cream cheese, Boursin, Parmesan, Gruyere, and sweet yellow onions, it bakes to a golden brown, rich, and flavorful dip that pairs wonderfully with crackers, chips, or fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Ingredients

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, room temperature (2 bricks)
  • 5.2 ounces Boursin cheese, room temperature (1 package)
  • ¾ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup freshly shredded Gruyere cheese (optional; can substitute Swiss cheese)

Vegetables

  • 2 cups diced sweet yellow onion

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spray a 2-quart shallow baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Cream Cheese and Boursin: Using a hand mixer, combine the room temperature cream cheese and Boursin cheese. Mix until the mixture is smooth, creamy, and fully incorporated.
  3. Add Cheeses and Onion: Add the freshly grated Parmesan cheese, shredded Gruyere cheese, and diced sweet yellow onion to the creamy cheese mixture. Mix well to evenly distribute all ingredients.
  4. Bake the Dip: Pour the combined mixture into the prepared baking dish. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with your favorite crackers, chips, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • Room temperature cheeses mix more smoothly, so plan ahead and allow cheeses to soften before mixing.
  • If Gruyere is unavailable, Swiss cheese is a suitable substitute.
  • For extra flavor, caramelize the onions before mixing for a sweeter, deeper onion taste.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving again.
