Description

This classic white rice recipe delivers fluffy, perfectly cooked long-grain rice every time. Using simple ingredients like water, salt, and optional butter, the stovetop method ensures tender grains with a delicate texture, making it a versatile side dish for countless meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white rice (long grain)
  • 1 â…” cup water or broth
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp butter or oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rinse Rice: Place the rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cool running water for 1-2 minutes until the water runs clear, removing excess starch for fluffier rice.
  2. Add to Pot: Transfer the rinsed rice to a medium-sized saucepan. Add the water or broth, salt, and optional butter or oil. Place the pot over high heat and bring the mixture to a rapid boil, visibly foaming and bubbling on the surface.
  3. Cover, Cook, and Rest: Once boiling, lower the heat to medium-low. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and allow the rice to simmer gently for 12 minutes without removing the lid. After cooking, remove the pot from heat and let it rest, covered, for 5-10 minutes. Finally, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Rinsing rice removes extra starch and prevents it from becoming gummy.
  • Using broth instead of water adds extra flavor.
  • Keep the lid on during cooking and resting to trap steam for tender rice.
  • Fluffing rice with a fork helps separate grains without crushing them.
  • Adjust water quantity slightly for softer or firmer rice based on preference.
