Ingredients
Scale
Cake
- 1 18.25 oz box white cake mix (prepared according to package instructions)
Jello Layers
- 3.4 oz cherry Jello
- 3.4 oz blue raspberry Jello
- 2 cups boiling water, divided
Topping
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened and divided
- 8 oz whipped cream
- Patriotic sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the cake: Bake the white cake mix according to the package instructions in a 9×13 inch pan. Allow the cake to cool completely once baked.
- Make the Jello: Dissolve the cherry Jello powder in 1 cup of boiling water, stirring until fully dissolved. Separately, dissolve the blue raspberry Jello powder in the remaining 1 cup of boiling water.
- Poké holes and pour Jello: Using the handle of a wooden spoon or a similar tool, poke evenly spaced holes all over the cooled cake. Slowly pour the cherry Jello mixture over one half of the cake, and the blue raspberry Jello mixture over the other half, allowing it to soak into the holes. Refrigerate the cake to set the Jello, about 1-2 hours.
- Prepare the cream cheese topping: Beat half of the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in the whipped cream gently until well combined.
- Assemble and chill: Spread the cream cheese and whipped cream mixture evenly over the top of the set Jello cake. Refrigerate for at least an additional hour to allow the topping to firm up.
- Garnish and serve: Just before serving, decorate the top of the cake with patriotic sprinkles for a festive look.
Notes
- Ensure the cake is completely cooled before poking holes and pouring Jello to prevent melting.
- For an extra festive touch, use star-shaped sprinkles or other themed decorations.
- Chilling times are approximate and may vary based on refrigerator temperature.
- This cake is best served chilled and can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
