Description

This Pumpkin Whiskey Smash Cocktail is a delightful fall-inspired drink combining rich pumpkin flavors with warming whiskey and a hint of spice. The homemade pumpkin simple syrup adds a layer of sweetness and pumpkin pie spices, making it perfect for cozy gatherings or festive celebrations during the autumn season.

Ingredients

Scale

Pumpkin Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200 grams)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (227 grams)
  • 2 cups water (454 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin pie spice (18 grams)

Cocktail

  • 1 cup whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 cup pumpkin simple syrup (prepared from above)
  • ¼ cup lemon juice (plus more, to taste)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Make Pumpkin Simple Syrup: In a small saucepan set over medium heat, combine the sugar, pumpkin puree, water, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir together to mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Simmer Syrup: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the syrup to thicken slightly. After cooking, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove pumpkin solids and spices, then let it cool completely. Store in an airtight container for up to one week.
  3. Mix Cocktail: In a pitcher, combine the cooled pumpkin simple syrup, whiskey or bourbon, and lemon juice. Stir well to incorporate all the ingredients evenly.
  4. Serve: Add ice to the pitcher and stir again to chill. Pour the cocktail into individual glasses over ice and adjust lemon juice to taste if desired before serving.

Notes

  • The pumpkin simple syrup can be prepared in advance and stored refrigerated for up to one week.
  • Adjust the amount of lemon juice to balance sweetness according to your taste preference.
  • Use bourbon or whiskey based on your flavor preference; both work well in this cocktail.
  • For a dairy-free and gluten-free cocktail, this recipe is suitable as is.
  • Garnish individual servings with a cinnamon stick or a small pumpkin slice for an extra festive touch.
