Description

Salty Dog Sangria is a refreshing, citrusy cocktail that combines the vibrant flavors of rosé wine, grapefruit juice, and vodka with a touch of sweetness from homemade simple syrup. Perfectly balanced with a salted rim and grapefruit slices, this sangria is ideal for summer gatherings or casual entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale

Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Sangria

  • 2 bottles rosé wine
  • 12 ounce can ginger ale
  • 2 cups ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1 cup Stoli Crushed Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka
  • Grapefruit slices, for garnish
  • Coarse sea salt and grapefruit zest, for rimming glasses

Instructions

  1. Make Simple Syrup: Heat sugar and water in a small saucepan over high heat. Stir continuously to dissolve the sugar. Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes until the syrup reduces by half and thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  2. Combine Sangria Ingredients: In a large pitcher, pour in the rosé wine, ginger ale, ruby red grapefruit juice, and Stoli Crushed Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka. Add approximately 1/2 cup of the cooled simple syrup, stir well, and taste. Adjust sweetness by adding more syrup if desired. Add grapefruit slices to the pitcher and stir gently. Refrigerate until chilled and ready to serve.
  3. Prepare Glass Rims and Serve: Before serving, dip each glass in water, then coat the rim with a mixture of coarse sea salt and grapefruit zest. Fill glasses with ice, pour the chilled sangria, and enjoy the refreshing cocktail.

Notes

  • The simple syrup can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Adjust the amount of simple syrup according to your preferred sweetness level.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, substitute rosé wine and vodka with additional ginger ale and sparkling water.
  • Grapefruit slices add a nice decorative touch and subtle flavor infusion, but can be omitted if desired.
  • Make sure to chill the sangria for at least one hour to allow flavors to meld.
