With aromatic herbs and a golden crust, it offers a rich and elegant flavor profile that’s simple to prepare and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry and Egg Wash

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Sautéed Mushrooms

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced (button, cremini, or a mix)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme (or fresh)
  • ½ tsp dried rosemary (or fresh)

Goat Cheese Mixture and Garnish

  • 4 oz (½ cup) goat cheese, crumbled
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on the baking sheet. Lightly score a ½-inch border around the edges to allow the crust to puff up properly. Prick the center inside the border several times with a fork to prevent it from rising too much.
  3. Sauté Mushrooms: In a skillet, heat the olive oil and unsalted butter over medium heat. Add finely chopped onions and sauté for about 2 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, being careful not to burn it. Add the sliced mushrooms along with salt, black pepper, dried thyme, and rosemary. Continue cooking for 5 to 7 minutes until the mushrooms are caramelized and golden brown.
  4. Make Goat Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the crumbled goat cheese, heavy cream, and Dijon mustard until smooth and creamy. This mixture will add richness and tang to the tarte.
  5. Assemble the Tarte: Spread the goat cheese mixture evenly over the center of the puff pastry, inside the scored border. Spoon the sautéed mushrooms on top of the goat cheese layer, distributing them evenly. Brush the exposed edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg to achieve a golden, glossy finish when baked.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled tarte in the preheated oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the pastry crust is puffed, golden, and crisp.
  7. Garnish & Serve: Once baked, remove the tarte from the oven and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for a vibrant finish. Slice into 6 pieces and serve warm for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • Use a mix of mushrooms like button and cremini for added depth of flavor.
  • Make sure the puff pastry is properly thawed to prevent cracking when rolling.
  • Egg wash helps the crust turn a beautiful golden brown and adds shine.
  • This tarte is best served warm but can be reheated gently in the oven.
  • For a vegetarian option, ensure the goat cheese and cream do not contain animal rennet if needed.
